Lähimmäisiäni

Om denne boken

"Lähimmäisiäni" by Kyösti Wilkuna is a collection of short stories written in the early 20th century. The book captures various aspects of Finnish life and characters, exploring themes of work, relationships, and individuality. Each story touches on the lives of different protagonists, such as laborers and simple villagers, presenting their struggles, aspirations, and connections with one another. The opening of the collection introduces characters Simola and Saikku, who are stone masons working together on a construction site. Their relationship is depicted through minimal dialogue, highlighting a silent camaraderie built over years of collaboration. As they labor, the reader learns about their contrasting personal lives, economic statuses, and their shared rituals, especially as they prepare for their monthly tradition of drinking together after payday. This sets the stage for deeper reflections on their lives and the nature of their friendships within the context of hard labor and the socio-economic environment they inhabit.
