Om denne boken

"Droll Stories — Volume 1" by Honoré de Balzac is a collection of humorous short stories published in groups between 1832-1837. Written in pastiche Renaissance French, these ribald tales are set in medieval and Renaissance France, inspired by Boccaccio's Decameron and Rabelais. Balzac aimed to capture a golden age of French character while addressing moral and political issues through sexually charged, sometimes obscene narratives. The archaic language creates both startling directness and distance, allowing bold treatment of provocative themes that scandalized contemporary critics.
