Om denne boken

Captain Billy's Whiz Bang, Vol. 3, No. 32, April, 1922 by Various is a humor magazine compiled in the early 20th century. Mixing ribald jokes, satirical editorials, celebrity gossip, and light verse, it offers a breezy snapshot of Prohibition‑era popular culture. Its likely topic is irreverent wit and social commentary, with a special eye on Hollywood, nightlife, and everyday foibles.

This issue opens with an editorial defending the film colony amid the William Desmond Taylor scandal, arguing that public voyeurism—not movies—fuels moral panics. The pages cascade with vaudeville‑style gags, barroom quips, flapper jokes, mock letters and “Questions and Answers,” travel yarns, and risqué one‑liners. A Hollywood gossip section flits through names like Mabel Normand, Charlie Chaplin, and Jack Dempsey, while later “Knickerbocker” notes dish on New York theater, Paris revels, and censorship around Erich von Stroheim’s “Foolish Wives.” Anchoring the levity are longer pieces: a dramatic frontier eulogy of race‑track plunger Riley Grannan; a suite of poems including E. Nesbit’s tragic “Absolution,” the exhortatory “Do It Now,” and a somber suicide verse; plus relentless comic fillers, rural mail‑box banter, and an in‑house ad for a “True Confessions” story contest and the magazine’s Winter Annual.
