The opening of this work presents a preface that sets the stage for a critical exploration of women's economic subjection and their fight for independence. Morley reflects on the historical context of women's work and the significance of the Fabian Women's Group, which aimed to provide a platform for women's voices in these discussions. She outlines the collaborative effort involved in compiling firsthand experiences from women professionals, emphasizing the importance of their perspectives in understanding the complexities of their economic situations.
