As holy and enchanted

About this book

As holy and enchanted by Kris Neville is a romantic fantasy short story written in the mid-20th century. It likely explores an impossible love between an ordinary city mechanic and a mysterious nature spirit who shapes the weather, contrasting the bustle of urban life with the delicate wonder of the natural world.

On a perfect spring Sunday, Nick, a shy mechanic who savors the park’s quiet, meets Mona, an ethereal young woman whose innocence and curiosity enchant him. They spend a blissful day together—wandering the city, sharing a meal, watching a movie, and dancing atop a glittering hotel—growing swiftly, tenderly in love. When he proposes, she falters and reveals her true nature: she belongs to another order of beings who “do” the phenomena of nature—colleagues paint sunrises, she makes snowflakes—and she had hoped he was one of them. Realizing they come from different worlds, she vanishes, and Nick is left alone under a gentle snowfall, the flakes like soft, parting kisses.
