About this book
"Kreuzer-sonaatti" by graf Leo Tolstoy is a novella published in 1889. During a train journey, a man named Pozdnyshev recounts the harrowing story of how he murdered his wife in a jealous rage. He blames their troubled marriage on carnal desire and society's corrupted views of relationships between men and women. When his wife befriends a violinist and they perform Beethoven's Kreutzer Sonata together, Pozdnyshev's jealousy erupts into violence. The controversial work argues for sexual abstinence and was immediately censored by Russian authorities.
