About this book

"Gambara" by Honoré de Balzac is a short story first published in 1837. Count Andrea Marcosini becomes obsessed with Marianna, a beautiful woman living in poverty with her husband Gambara, a brilliant but misunderstood composer whose music only sounds coherent when he's drunk. As Andrea tries to help the couple and win Marianna's affection, he enters a world where artistic genius borders on madness. This philosophical tale explores the nature of music, sacrifice, and the thin line between inspiration and insanity.
