About this book

"Le lettere di Michelangelo Buonarroti" by Michelangelo Buonarroti is a collection of letters written in the early 16th century. This compilation, which includes both published and previously unpublished correspondence, offers insights into the personal and professional life of the iconic Renaissance artist Michelangelo. The letters reveal his thoughts, relationships, and challenges while providing a glimpse into the artistic and historical context in which he lived. The opening of the collection presents a preface that outlines the intention behind publishing Michelangelo's letters, especially as Florence prepares to celebrate the fourth centenary of his birth. The text emphasizes the significance of these letters not just for understanding Michelangelo as an artist, but as a profoundly human individual with rich emotional depth. The first letters are addressed to his father, Lodovico Buonarroti, discussing work, personal matters, and family concerns, highlighting Michelangelo’s commitment to his family alongside his artistic endeavors.
